Thermal Nucleation of Magnetic Bubbles With Controlled Chirality

A device for nucleating magnetic bubbles with controlled chirality is illustrated in the figure.

Current is passed from the conductor through a conducting magnetic film to the conducting substrate. Such a current produces, as viewed from above, (a) an azimuthal magnetic field which favors clockwise chirality in a bubble domain, and (b) Joule heating in the magnetic film which can nucleate a domain therein.

Reversing the polarity of the current in this device will favor nucleating a bubble domain with a counterclockwise chirality.
