Head Mount

A magnetic head mounting includes a gimbaled head mount and a four-bar linkage for loading the head against a document.

Head 40 is mounted for movement parallel to mounting surface 20 by a four- bar linkage comprising elements 22, 24, 26, and 28. Spring 30 is mounted between elements 22 and 28 so as to force head 40 downward against the surface of a document, which may vary through the dimension X.

Mounted to element 28 of the four-bar linkage is head carriage 48, into which head 40 is mounted, with mounting screws 44 provided for azimuth alignment. Head 40 is free to pivot about axis 46 to provide vertical alignment to conform to the document surface.

Head 40 will maintain uniform orientation.and contact on the document surface, with gap 42 perpendicular to the direction of travel (right. to left) throughout the thickness range X of the document.
