Abstract

This apparatus relates to optical mark readers. The device provided consists of a lenticular lens designed to gather light from a long rectangular area. The light is concentrated on photosensors aligned behind the lens on a substrate, on the back of which is an integrated circuit operational amplifier with sufficient gain to drive the signal cables in the presence of noise.

The advantages of this apparatus are that it replaces complexity of the read heads, reduces sensitivity to noise, reduces cost of amplifiers and provides a better match to optically readable marks.
