Reference is made to the flow chart. FLPCON is an Assembler Language program designed to convert a 24-bit (base 8) floating-point word to a 32-bit (base 16) floating-point word, or a 64-bit double-precision floating-point word.

Bit manipulation is determined by sampling the two low bits of the characteristic. This manipulation consists of shifting the characteristics and adding 0's to the mantissa. The algorithm and examples set-forth below explain this principle. To accomplish double-precision notation, add thirty-two trailing 0's to the mantissa. CONVERSION FROM 24-BIT FLOATING-POINT WORD
