Abstract

In Fig. 1, the pawl 7 is shown in the latched out position. The pawl is latched out during carriage return. The pawl 7 is held out of the escapement rack 4 by the tab lever 6 which is locked in position by the tab latch 5. This is the same way the pawl 7 is held out of the rack 4 for a tab operation.

In Fig. 1, the pawl 7 is shown in the latched out position. The pawl is latched out during carriage return. The pawl 7 is held out of the escapement rack 4 by the tab lever 6 which is locked in position by the tab latch 5. This is the same way the pawl 7 is held out of the rack 4 for a tab operation.

In Fig. 2 the phasor crank 2 has been rotated by carrier travel into the left- hand margin 1. The rotation of the crank 2 knocks the tab latch 5 from the tab lever 6. The pawl 7 is then held from the rack 4 by the phasor link 3 (Figs. 2 and
3). The carrier escapement pawl 7 is "phased" into the correct rack tooth by the phasor crank 2, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4.
