Universal Coupler

Connecting a vertically and horizontally translatable magnetic head to a spaced horizontally translatable electrical contact slider requires universal coupling without backlash.

During normal operations, the head is translated horizontally along a radius of a recording disc when both in and out of contact with the disc. The slider is restrained to move horizontally and must move in unison with the horizontal translation of the head.

Head carrier 1 carries an adjustable screw 2 having spherical hitch 5. Connected to hitch 5 is one end of connecting link 3. Contact slider 7, having contacts 4, carries spherical hitch 6. Hitch 6 is connected to the other end of link
