Multiple Contact Switch with Spaced Actuation and Reset Points

This switch can be incorporated into an ultraminiaturized electromechanical device to facilitate electrical switching, by spaced and separate mechanical actuating and resetting apparatus.

Housing 1 has a first contact pair with a resilient break arm 4 and a second contact pair with a resilient break arm 5. When the contact pairs are to be separated for switching, a force is applied to the left end of actuator 2 in the direction of arrow 15. As actuator 2 is displaced to the right, upright 12 will contact tab 13 and cause breaker 3 to be displaced to the right. As upright 10 rides out from under horizontal post 9, breaker 3 will assume the position shown in dotted lines. This is due to compression spring 8 acting against slanted surface
17. Break arms 4 and 5 will also be in the positions shown in the dotted lines. End 14 of actuator 2 contacts break arm 5.

The timing of the separation of the contact pairs relative to one another is controlled by adjusting screw 6, which serves as a pivot point for rotation of the second contact pair. This contact pair is locked in place by set screw 7. In fact, the second contact pair could be so positioned that a first depression level of actuator 2 would separate the first contact pair, and a second depression level would separate the second contact pair.

After the contact pairs have been separated, the second contact pair is restored by break arm 5 when a force is...
