The apparatus as shown in the figures provides a simple low-cost means of opening and closing access doors, while simultaneously releasing and clamping a tape reel for a small recording tape cartridge.

Fig. 1 depicts the front view of tape cartridge 10. Tape reel 12 (see Fig. 2) on which magnetic tape 14 is wound is positioned within tape cartridge 10. Fig. 1B is a cross section taken across line B-B of Fig. 1. Likewise, Fig. 1A shows a cross section taken across line A-A of Fig. 1.

Tape cartridge 10 comprises rotary door 16. Rotary door 16 is shown in the closed position and is mounted to door pivot 18, which is fixed to the inside front wall of cartridge 10. Door openings 20 and 22 are positioned in the front face of cartridge 10. Likewise, door openings 24 and 26 are positioned diagonally in the front face of rotary door 16.

When door 16 is in the open position, door opening 24 coincides with door opening 22 so that a transducer can be introduced into cartridge 10 and read/write information on magnetic media 14. Similarly, in the open position, door opening 26 coincides with door opening 20.

Cam pins 28 and 30 are mounted on rotary door 16 and engage cam slots 32 and 34, which are positioned in flexible beam spool clamp 36 and causes the clamp to open as the door is rotated. Flexible beam spool clamp 36 is fixed to support plate 38 (Fig. 2) and is positioned on the inside wall of cartridge 10. Detent notches 40 and 42 positioned at each end of the cam slots cause door 16 to detent either opened or closed.
