Drum Printer

A more compact, less expensive printer results by using a drive motor of the external rotor type and mounting a concentric print drum on the rotor.

In the figure, the motor comprises a base unit 1, stator 2 fixed thereto, and an external rotor 3. A print drum 4 is engraved with a plurality of character sets and secured to rotor 3. A conventional paper carrier, ribbon, and print hammers would be used with the drum.

The described arrangement eliminates the usual drive elements between a conventional motor and print drum, and has the advantage of providing a rigid assembly which is conveniently accessible.
