Emitter Collector Drive Circuit

The drawing depicts an emitter-collector drive (ECD) circuit with active pull- up and pull-down devices to improve damping of transmission line transients.

Transistor T4A operates as a Darlington drive and level shifter providing high- current drive to transistor T5 with light loading of node B.

Transistors T5 and T6 forw a current switch with the base of T6 referenced to -1.5 volts. Current limiting, provided by emitter resistor RE, prevents large transient currents during simultaneous on-state conditions of T3 and T6.

Transistor T4B inhibits active pull down of T6, to provide tristate operation when used in conjunction with a collector dot at node B.
