The device shown in the drawings, Figs. 1 and 2, provides an accurate, rapid and high-repeatability method of producing groups of wires of identical lengths, each having at least one shaped or "formed" end.

The wire to be cut is wound around a drum having suitably sized spiral grooves. The drum circumference is precisely equal to the desired length of the wire. (When the wire is of heavy gauge, the angle of the groove must be taken into consideration.) Clamp or anchoring means 1 are provided on the drum to hold the wire tightly in the grooves prior to the forming/cutting operations. Wire forming/cutting, anvil 2 extends across the drum, parallel to its rotational axis.

The device is equipped with a locator pin hole; the locator pin hole in the fixture and drum are aligned. A locking pin 3 is inserted in the locator pin hole to lock the drum in place during the form and cut operations.

Not shown in the drawing is a wire retaining means. This is used to prevent "scattering" of the wires after cutting. It may be as simple as a piece of masking tape.

In the embodiment of Fig. 1, a forming tool is initially employed in the forming and cutting mechanism. Thereafter, the forming tool is replaced by a cutting tool.

In the alternative embodiment of Fig. 2, the forming and cutting of the wires is accomplished by a single movement of mechanism 4, which carries a forming tool and a cutting tool displaced in space.
