Combined Light Shade and Handle

A photosensitive drum surface is protected from intense light during servicing by a cover, which also serves as a handle for safely removing and carrying the drum.

A molded plastic drum cover handle has two captive screws and two ball hinges. When used as a cover (Fig. 1), the balls are snapped into sockets mounted on an adjacent structural member to shade the drum from direct light. When used as a handle (Fig. 2), the captive screws are inserted into tapped holes on the drum. The assembly may then be lifted by two hands with the molded and recessed handles. The cover/handle may be stored, when not in use, by snapping its ball hinges into mating sockets installed on any convenient machine member.
