Abstract

The device as depicted schematically shows a linear digital optical tachometer converted from rotary motion. The device includes roller 20 and roller 22. Idler pulley 24 is attached to idler roller 20. On roller 22, drive pulley 26 and high-density rotary tachometer disc 28 is mounted. Light-emitting diode (LED)/phototransistor combination package 30 is positioned in proximity to high-density rotary tachometer disc 28 so that as the disc rotates, electrical signals indicative of motion are outputted from LED/phototransistor package 30.

The device as depicted schematically shows a linear digital optical tachometer converted from rotary motion. The device includes roller 20 and roller 22. Cable drive 32 is positioned around idler pulley 24 and drive pulley 22 to form a closed loop. Cable spring 34 and motor actuator 36 are arranged in tandem and positioned within the closed loop.

In operation, drive pulley 22 is rotated by motor actuator 36 via cable 32. This in turn rotates tachometer disc 28, and an electric signal is outputted from LED/phototransistor combination 30 indicative of linear motion.
