Waste Treatment Reduction in Industrial Sludge

It is sometimes very expensive to dispose of the sludge from industrial waste-water treatment.

The disposition of this sludge can be facilitated by freeze drying the sludge. The sludge can be milled in its frozen state and the water can be sublimed off under high vacuum, leaving a cake or powdery residue which is high in nonvolatile solids. This volumetrically reduced form of sludge can be disposed of conveniently into landfill or packaged for some recovery applications.
