Sharp intersecting contours without burrs are obtained with a segmented grinding wheel.

A first contour 1 in Fig. 1 is ground by a number of segments 2 spaced apart as shown in Fig. 2. Segments 2 have grinding surfaces 6 lying in one plane about the periphery of a wheel 3. A second and intersecting contour 4 is ground by a number of alternately spaced segments 5 having grinding surfaces 7 lying in another plane about the periphery of the same or an adjacent wheel. A composite of both contour profiles ground will be a third profile.
