Label Attachment Machine

This machine operates, when the handle 3 of the machine is squeezed, to propel a label 9 out of the machine beneath roll 15 so that the label 9 can then be rolled or pressed onto an item, such as box 52.

The labels 9 are die cut and are pressure-sensitive adhesive, backed so as to be disposed on and temporarily fixed on a backing strip 7. Each of labels 9 is provided with a magnetic stripe 56 and may be suitably printed. Backing strip 7 is provided with perforate lines 60 between adjacent ones of labels 9 which are slightly spaced apart on backing strip 7.

With the cover 1 of the machine removed, a roll of strip 7 carrying labels 9 can be loaded into the housing 16 of the machine. With the first five to ten labels 9 removed from backing strip 7, backing strip 7 is inserted between post 12 and pressure roll 13. Then backing strip 7 is wrapped around post 22, inserted between index roll 19 and hold-down member 11, wrapped around post 17 and fed out of housing 16 past cutoff inserted between post 12 and pressure roll 13. Then backing strip 7 is wrapped around post 22, inserted between index roll 19 and hold-down member 11, wrapped around post 17 and fed out of housing 16 past cutoff knife 8.

Gripping handle 3 against housing 16 will index labels 9 the distance between adjacent perforations 60 in backing strip 7. This action will cause a label 9 to protrude between post 22 and roll 15, so that the label 9 so protruding can be applied onto and...
