The device, as depicted schematically, shows a rotatory transformer having wide frequency passband and transmission line characteristics.

Fig. 1 depicts an equivalent circuit of the rotatory transformer demonstrating its transmission line characteristics. The rotatory transformer 10 is comprised of primary windings 12 and secondary windings 14. By selecting terminating resistor 16 to have a characteristic impedance that can be controlled and matched to the input and output cables, the power transmission across transformer 10 is significantly improved. Also, the signal band of the transmitted data is significantly improved (i.e., much wider).

Fig. 2 and Fig. 3 depict a concentric configuration of the transformer. In this configuration, secondary coils 14 are positioned within inner ferrite core 22. Likewise, primary coils 12 are positioned within outer ferrite core 20. The arrangement is such that a signal is transmitted from the primary coils 12 to the secondary coils 14 or vice versa, as the inner ferrite core 22 rotates relative to outer ferrite core 20.

In order to maintain the wide signal band and the transmission line characteristics of transformer 10, wide flat conductors are used for the primary and secondary coil 12 and 14.
