A level shifter may be provided by cascading diodes as depicted in the circuit diagram of Fig. 1, where A is the input and B is the output. The implementation of this circuit on a chip requires three isolated devices.

A level shifter may also be provided by cascading emitter-followers as depicted in the circuit diagram of Fig. 2 As depicted in Fig. 3, in a chip layout designed to provide four-way T/2/L internal cells, the common-collector feature of the level shifter of Fig. 2 is readily implemented.
