Abstract

Described is a microcode-hardware method of purging the buffers on both CPUs in the Multiprocessing (MP) mode with the software required to issue only one Page Table Lookaside Buffer (PTLB) instruction, thus eliminating the software loops. The microcode-hardware logic takes care of synchronizing the CPUs and clearing the buffers at the same time, with the receiving CPU running or in the stopped state.
