Abstract

Efficient conversion of AC to DC for "on-chip" power is achieved by distributing reduced voltage three-phase AC to semiconductor chips, and deriving low ripple DC power without requiring the use of capacitors. The resistors RS are located off chip, but the remaining components including the diodes and the load RL are on chip.

Efficient conversion of AC to DC for "on-chip" power is achieved by distributing reduced voltage three-phase AC to semiconductor chips, and deriving low ripple DC power without requiring the use of capacitors. The resistors RS are located off chip, but the remaining components including the diodes and the load RL are on chip.

When the value of each resistor RS is made equal to RL/Square Root of 3, the ripple at the load RL is reduced to less than +/- 2%. If RS is omitted or greatly mismatched from the above relationship, the ripple at the load RL can be greater than +/- 7%.
