Illuminated Card Guide

An illuminated card guide is provided to enhance print line visibility in a printer employing a continuously rotating spoked print wheel.

Small wheat-size lamps 11 are embedded in plastic card guide 13 adjacent the print window 15 thereof. The card guide 13 is located adjacent paper 17 on platen 19. Lamps 11 illuminate paper 17 in the area of printing.

Continuously rotating print wheel 21 rotates in front of card guide 13. Print hammer 23 is actuated at an appropriate time to drive a selected print spoke 25 of print wheel 21 into ribbon 27 and paper 17, thereby forming a print impression. Ribbon 27 is then dropped. Print wheel 21 continues to rotate.

Lamps 11 illuminate the paper 17 at the print position, Allowing operator viewing thereof during the continuous motion of the print wheel 21 therepast. That is, the operator is able to view illuminated printed characters located behind the continuously rotating print wheel 21 through the spaces between the rotating print spokes 25.
