Abstract

Shown is a collator-stapler module for attachment to a copying machine. Copies from the copying machine are transported along the paper path 10 by feed rollers, not shown. A movable deflector 12 deflects copies into the appropriate bins 14 to make up collated sets. Deflector 12 moves vertically along the left-hand edge of the collator bins 14 to perform the collating function.

Collator Stapler Module for Copier

Shown is a collator-stapler module for attachment to a copying machine. Copies from the copying machine are transported along the paper path 10 by feed rollers, not shown. A movable deflector 12 deflects copies into the appropriate bins 14 to make up collated sets. Deflector 12 moves vertically along the left-hand edge of the collator bins 14 to perform the collating function.

When a collated set has been completed in a bin 14 travelling clamp 16 picks the collated set out of the collated bin. Clamp 16 moves vertically on rail 18 and horizontally on rail 20 to pick up a collated set from a collator bin 14. The travelling clamp carries the collated set to the jogger tray 24.

Jogger tray 24 with edge guides is driven by motor 26 in a vibratory motion. The vibratory motion with edge guiding aligns the collated set into a corner reference in the jogger tray 24. When the collated set has been aligned in the jogger tray 24 the set is ready for stapling.

Stapler 28 has stapling jaws 30 which reach through a cutout in the jogger tray 24 to staple the set together. Staples 32 are roll fed to one of the jaws of the stapler 28. After the collated set has been stapled, stacker clamp 34 picks up the stapled set, pulls it out of jogger tray 24 and drops it into bin 36.

While jogger tray 24 is aligning a set of documents travelling clamp 16 can proceed back to a collator bin 14 to pick up a second collated set. Thus, upon completion of the sta...
