Abstract

A glass composition suitable for sealing soda-lime-silica substrates of thermal expansion coefficient around 90 x 10/-7// degrees C for display application and one which crystallizes into only one crystalline phase, in percent by weight, is as follows: PbO: 71;B(2)O(3): 7-9.5; SiO(2): 7-9.5; Al(2)O(3): 1.0 ZnO: 9-14.

Divitrified Frit Seal Glass for Sealing Gas Panels

A glass composition suitable for sealing soda-lime-silica substrates of thermal expansion coefficient around 90 x 10/-7// degrees C for display application and one which crystallizes into only one crystalline phase, in percent by weight, is as follows: PbO: 71;B(2)O(3): 7-9.5; SiO(2): 7-9.5; Al(2)O(3): 1.0

ZnO: 9-14.

The only crystalline phase found on sealing at about 450 degrees C is larsenite, PbO. ZnO. SiO(2), and the presence of this single crystalline material, in addition to giving desired thermal properties for the seal, greatly simplifies quality control of the seal glass.
