Media Feed Control Switch

This is an apparatus for metering currency into the pinch point of a transport, such that the media is maintained in proper relation to hopper guide and not packed too tightly.

Currency documents 1, 2, 3 and 4 are held in a currency hopper, and removed one bill 1 at a time by belt 15, moving in the direction of arrow 19, and fed into bill transport 23, 24. Restraint belt 16 slowly rotates as shown by arrow 26 to keep second bill 2 from entering transport 23, 24 along with bill 1.

Motor 17 drives hopper feed belt 18 to load bills 4 into the transport pinch point (at convergence of belts 15 and 16) under the control of media control switch arm 6. Control arm 6 is pivotally mounted to the base by pin 9, as is restraint finger 7. Restraint finger 7 is loaded by spring 10 into a lower position, as shown, with surface 8 substantially parallel to lower hopper guide 22 and spaced therefrom so as to provide a channel through which bills 4 are loaded.

Restraint finger 7 may be manually rotated about pin 9 into an upper position, not shown, and there held by spring 10 (which would then pass over the center line of pin 9) to permit manual loading of the currency to prime the feed mechanism. Control arm 6 is loaded by spring 11 so as to rotate it to bring surface 5 thereof into contact with bills 1, 2, and 3 in the region of the pinch point at 15, 16, such that surface 5 forms an extension of surface 8.

With bills 1, 2, 3 packed under arm 6 at the de...
