Disc Drive Unit

In a disc drive unit for a portable recorder, reliability, serviceability and ease of assembly are improved with spring maintained components.

Motor 1 is pivotably carried about its center of gravity by spring mount 3 connected to protuberance 2. Motor 1 is spring biased in a counterclockwise direction to cause its shaft to contact the outer periphery of wheel 4. This arrangement permits reliable operation for any orientation of the drive unit.

Wheel 5 is positioned on the same shaft 6 as wheel 4. Bearing block 7 has a leaf spring 8 which acts against one end of shaft 6.

This causes the other end of shaft 6 to remain in engagement with a bearing in frame 9.

A pinch roller 10 is carried by arm 11 which is pivotable about shaft 12 connected to frame 9. Pinch roller 10 is biased toward wheel 5 by spring 13 for causing disc 14 to be driven upon rotation of wheel 5.

Pinch roller 10 is translated toward and away from wheel 5 by crank 15 for insertion and removal of disc 14. Crank 15 acts against the lower end 16 of arm 11 for causing pivoting of arm 11 about shaft 12.
