Corona with Operator Actuated Cleaner

A corona device is shown which is relatively insensitive to dusty environments.

The corona device comprises an emission wire 10 located near the surface 12 to be charged. A pair of protective nonconductive shields 14 are positioned on each side of the corona wire 10. A conductive tube 16 is mounted on the side of the corona wire 10 away from surface 12 to function as a conductive shield. A space 18 is provided between shields 14 and tube 16 to form an entry for purging air to the corona device to maintain corona wire 10 free of dust.

In addition, tube 16 is mounted for rotation about its axis and wiper member 20 is positioned contacting the tube 16. The machine operator can then clean this element by the simple and expedient turning of a knob, not shown, which is connected to tube 16 to dislodge contaminants from the tube surface by the rubbing action of wiper member 20.
