Liquid and gas quick disconnects 10, 20 are combined with single bottle cap C and allow quick disconnection of fluid discharge and gas pressure supply lines 11, 21.

In normal operation, cap C is threadably engaged at C' with a fluid containing bottle, not shown, which is part of an automatic fluid dispensing system, not shown. Pressurized gas, e.g., air, is fed into the bottle via line 21. As a result, when a metered valve, not shown, in line 11 is opened, a metered amount of fluid from the bottle is discharged via line 11. In one application, the system is part of a process-controlled automated chemical analyzer, in which the bottle contains a reagent that is to be mixed in a test tube containing a specimen to be analyzed.

In servicing the system, for example, to refill and/or replace an emptied bottle or periodically to purge, i.e., clean, the system, quick disconnects 10, 20 allow disconnection of lines 11, 21 in a rapid and reliable manner and mitigates spillage due to drippings and the like. Thus, the associated machinery, not shown, is less subject to fouling or contamination and corrosion, particularly where the reagent is hostile to the material of the associated machinery.
