Abstract

In this selector documents moving along a transport belt 1 are brought selectively into a pocket 8 under control of a selector deflector 2, which is pivotable about a fixed pin 3. Deflector 2 is adapted to be opened by the displacement of the armature of an electromagnet 4 and to be closed by the pulling force of a helical spring 5. Document Selector

In this selector documents moving along a transport belt 1 are brought selectively into a pocket 8 under control of a selector deflector 2, which is pivotable about a fixed pin 3. Deflector 2 is adapted to be opened by the displacement of the armature of an electromagnet 4 and to be closed by the pulling force of a helical spring 5. Electromagnet 5 is operative under control of document detection means, not shown.

A leaf spring 6 is provided in order to speed up the closing of deflector 2. The figure shows deflector 2 in its open position, wherein leaf spring 6, which is held in contact with an adjustable stop 7, is biased to provide a suitable initial extra force for closing deflector 2 when electromagnet 4 is de-energized. The action of leaf spring 6 makes it possible to use a helical spring 5 with a relatively low pulling force, so that damage to documents passing between transport belt 1 and deflector 2 at the moment that deflector 2 is closing is prevented.
