Duplex Printing

Duplex printing of a word processing job is accomplished by inclusion of logic in the word processing system to skip alternating pages of the job during printing.

Each of the odd-order pages of the job are accessed for printing on each of the front sides of the paper. After all odd-order pages have been printed, the paper is fed through the printer in a a second pass to print the remainder of the text by accessing the even-order pages in the job.

In printing systems having individual sheet, automatic sheet feeding capability, the job can be duplex printed in an unattended manner, except for the reloading of the stack of paper after the odd-order pages have been printed. Special notations in the text to be printed are used to force printing of particular special pages on one side only.
