Parallel Holder

The illustrated apparatus is a parallel holder. Its purpose is to hold a precision parallel for checking parameters of straightness, flatness, pitch and yaw on x-y tables.

The parallel holder as shown in the drawing consists of three major components, a mounting frame 10, the parallel bed 12 and a retaining plate 14. Together, this assembly will hold and adjust the position of a precision parallel.

This parallel holder is unique in that it allows a very fine adjustment of the parallel, and also in that it makes possible measurements of straightness and yaw simply by turning it on its side (measurements of flatness and pitch are made in the upright position).
