Abstract

The transparent cover 1 of a flat display device has a "flys eye" lens system, so that each display element 2 is associated with a respective lens 3 which magnifies the display element. This arrangement has the advantages of reducing the required size of the elements 2, increasing contrast between activated and nonactivated display elements, eliminating glare from the front face of the panel, and providing a dead space 4, invisible to the viewer, in which electrodes etc. can be located.
