Bonding Ceramic Slider to Ferrite Body in a Magnetic Head Assembly

A glass layer for bonding a ceramic slider face to a ferrite body in a magnetic head slider assembly, such as disclosed in the IBM Technical Disclosure Bulletin, Vol. 12, No. 7, December, 1969 at page 958, can be formed using the apparatus shown in the figure.

A screening mask is positioned over the slider face. The mask is slightly smaller than the mating surface of the slider face. Powdered glass in a binder is placed on the mask and spread over the mask by an applicator, to force the glass paste through the screening mask into position on the slider face. The mask is removed and the sliders are heated to remove the binder from the paste. The slider face with the glass is then ready for bonding to the ferrite body.
