Automated Two Axis Ink Jet Directionality Tester

A movable probe mechanism is proposed for testing multiorifice ink jet directionality along two axes.

Specifically, the ink jets are arranged in a single row. A capacitance probe is moved at a constant velocity along a path perpendicular to the ink jet streams and parallel to the row of orifices, at a position downstream from the orifices and closely adjacent to the streams. For a horizontal row, the timing of the peak signal from each stream gives horizontal directionality and the signal amplitude gives vertical directionality.
