For example, in the pulse stream of the figure, the next pulse after clock pulse C5 is decoded as a data pulse if it occurs before 3/4 T(m), and as a clock pulse if it occurs afterwards; where:

and where Delta T is the elapsed time between adjacent clock pulses C1 C2, C2 C3, ....

Obviously, the algorithm can be implemented in either hardware or software, and any number n of clock periods can be averaged to establish T(m). An example of a circuit where n=1 is taught in U.S. Patent 3,859,510.
