Filter Element

In the manufacture of ceramic green sheets, a ceramic slurry is prepared. It is desirable that the prepared ceramic slurry be filtered through a suitable element to remove particles larger than a predetermined size.

This filter has a top element 10, a bottom opposed element 12, a filter housing 14, and a filtering element 16 disposed concentrically within the filter housing 14. The improved feature of the filtering unit is a standpipe 18 disposed within filter element 16. Slurry, to be filtered, enters inlet 20 after which it is forced through the filtering element 16 and subsequently out of outlet 22. A drain port 24 is also provided.

The incorporation of the standpipe 18, in the body of the filtering unit, eliminates the amount of slurry remaining in the unit at the termination of the operation. Air or other suitable medium, forced into inlet 20, will force the major portion of the slurry up through the standpipe 18. The level of slurry remaining is then essentially level with the bottom of the standpipe 18. Without the standpipe 18 in the filtering element, the entire volume of the body is filled with slurry which must be removed.
