Peak Detector

This is an economical low-voltage peak detector designed for implementation in IC bipolar technology.

This peak detector includes an input stage T(1) biased by a 10 to 20 mu A current source T(2) with constant-base voltage V(R), providing a high-input impedance. The input stage drives a detector which comprises a PNP/NPN Darlington configuration T3/T4 with equivalent beta coefficient of about 1000. A capacitor C is used for storage purposes. The negative output detected voltage is given by:

The output buffer stage comprises NPN transistor T(5) which drives a Darlington output stage T(6)/T(7).
