Abstract

This thermal transfer printing system uses a printing ribbon which has a volatile dye thereon. The dye is selectively transferred to a print sheet by the use of a suitable heat source, such as a laser. The print sheet comprises paper coated with a latex emulsion. A more uniform distribution of dye can be produced on this sheet by subjecting the sheet to a post-heat-treat process, such as by heating to 140 Degrees C for ten minutes, or by passing the sheet through hot rollers. This post-heat treatment improves optical contrast and print smear resistance.
