Abstract

This magnetic brush developer comprises a conveyor roll 12 which transports developer from a sump area to a developer roll 10. Developer roll 10 is mounted close to the surface 14 of photoconductor drum 16, so that a latent electrostatic image on surface 14 is developed as the image moves past roll 10.

Magnetic Brush Developer

This magnetic brush developer comprises a conveyor roll 12 which transports developer from a sump area to a developer roll 10. Developer roll 10 is mounted close to the surface 14 of photoconductor drum 16, so that a latent electrostatic image on surface 14 is developed as the image moves past roll 10.

Roll 10 comprises a rotating sleeve member 18 surrounding a stationary magnet assembly 20, which is formed by a number of individual permanent magnets 22a-n of alternating polarities.

The size of magnets 22 varies, as shown in the figure. The use of many small magnets in the development zone causes the carrier bead chain links to turn end for end. This action produces better development. At the same time it prevents carrier beads from being stripped of toner, which could cause the beads to stick to surface 14 and be carried out of the developer.
