Abstract

Bubble Guidance

This apparatus is used for guiding the planar movement of magnetic bubbles, the bubbles which normally travel on preferred permalloy paths constrained by T and I bars. The travel path of each magnetic bubble is deemed switchable under the influence of a localized magnetic field, such as that formed from a stationary bubble or a conductor loop.

This apparatus comprises a conductive matrix positioned close and parallel to the material supporting the planar movement of the bubbles. The matrix consists of a plurality of electrically independent row and column conductors. The conductors, in turn, are each respectively deformed at their crosspoints so as to concentrate the flux-line intercept between the magnetic fields surrounding the current-carrying conductors and the domain material. Consequently, localized fields are induced in the material in the near region of the crosspoint in the presence of coincident currents in the conductors. Thus, a stationary bubble can be selectively created or destroyed by managing the polarity patterns of the coincident currents in each selected pair of row and column conductors.
