Dual Flexible Boot Seal Mechanism

The dual flexible boot-seal mechanism makes it possible to test a product within its normal operating environment. For example, if the product to be tested is normally operable within m liquid sealed from the ambient atmosphere, this test vehicle provides for testing the product within the liquid under sealed conditions.

The product to be tested (not shown) is located within the chamber 3 and can extend through the wall thereof at position "A" (Fig. 1). An inflatable seal 12 is utilized between the chamber 3 and a stationary plate 2. A moving cradle 9 is movable in the X direction with respect to the plate 2. The cradle 9 has peripheral portions 14 which extend upward and outward from the main portion of the cradle. Stationary plate 2 also has peripheral portions 16 which extend upward and inward. A sliding seal 18 is provided between the peripheral portions 14 of the movable cradle 9 and the peripheral portions 16 of the stationary plate

A flexible boot 20 is connected between the peripheral portions 14 of the moving cradle 9 and the stationary plate 2 by fasteners 8. The peripheral portions 16 of the stationary plate 2 extend further out laterally than the peripheral portions 14 of the moving cradle 9, so that the cradle 9 is movable laterally with respect to stationary plate 2 within the limits provided by the peripheral portions 14 and 16.
