Abstract

In the process of developing a magnetic disk record, it is often necessary to rotate the disk in a heated environment for temperature curing and such. The presence of a coating or the requirement to apply a further material forces the suspension of the disk at the hubs only. A hub clamp capable of adequately supporting the disk during rotation and providing ease of access and removal is shown in the figures.

Hub Clamp

In the process of developing a magnetic disk record, it is often necessary to rotate the disk in a heated environment for temperature curing and such. The presence of a coating or the requirement to apply a further material forces the suspension of the disk at the hubs only. A hub clamp capable of adequately supporting the disk during rotation and providing ease of access and removal is shown in the figures.

The hub clamp comprises a carrier 1 that can be mounted to a shaft 2, for instance, for rotation. A plurality of V-shaped blocks 3 are resiliently mounted via leaf springs 4 around the periphery of the carrier 1. The V blocks 3 can be depressed into a cutout 5 associated with each V block and leaf spring assembly. The V blocks 3 are notched to contact the chamfered inner diameter of the disk.

To clamp or remove a disk, the V blocks are urged towards the center of the carrier by a retaining tool. The disk is next positioned over the blocks and the retaining tool is released and removed. The resiliently mounted blocks provide a support for the disk during a heating and cooling cycle.
