Image Enhancement Processing

The image enhancement processing flow illustrated employs charge-coupled device (CCD) delay lines, having common clock lines with CCD image buffer 10. The processing is of raw data prior to thresholding, and avoids loss of critical data.

Data is read from the CCD image plane 11 into the analog buffer 10. From the buffer, it is clocked into a series of delays and compares. The data is compared to a threshold 12, delayed 13 one picture element clock time (pixel), and added to the next pixel on the same line and compared to a second threshold 14. If the threshold is not met, the data is delayed another pixel 15, and added to the next pixel on the same row and again compared to the threshold 16. If the threshold is still not met, a further delay 17 is provided, and the data is then added to the pixel on the next row and line and compared to the threshold 18. Any time the threshold is met, the analog data is encoded 19. If, after processing, the threshold is not met, the next pixel is examined 20. The above correlation of pixel data is shown as being additive; however, it may equally be multiplicative in nature.
