Safety Plug

This safety plug prevents plug dismantling when electrical power is present.

The figure shows an electrical appliance 10 having a two-prong plug 11 adapted to receive line-cord socket 14 so as to supply electrical power to the appliance. Plug 11 is mounted on the appliance by screw fastener 12. A pair of electrical conductors (not shown) within the appliance connect to a pair of exposed terminals on the underside of plug 11. These terminals are exposed only when screw fastener 12 is removed, so that the plug may then be lifted away from the appliance housing.

Line cord 13 includes socket 14. This socket mates with plug 11 so as to supply electrical power to the appliance. This socket includes an overhanging skirt 15 which hides screw fastener 12 when socket 14 is mated to plug 11. Thus, plug 11 cannot be removed from the appliance until socket 14 has first been removed, to expose the screw fastener. Removal of socket 14, of course, removes power from plug 11.
