Abstract

A solar collector comprising a lens enclosing the top surface of a housing. Light rays are focused onto an absorber plate positioned on heat transfer tubes, thereby heating fluid in the heat transfer tubes. Light rays not striking the absorber plate are directed back into the lower portion of the heat transfer tubes by a parabolic reflector.

Solar Heating Cell

A solar collector comprising a lens enclosing the top surface of a housing. Light rays are focused onto an absorber plate positioned on heat transfer tubes, thereby heating fluid in the heat transfer tubes. Light rays not striking the absorber plate are directed back into the lower portion of the heat transfer tubes by a parabolic reflector.

As the sun progresses through the meridian, the focal point of the sun changes, but the lens concentrates the light rays, and hence the energy at the absorber plate, thereby increasing the solar collector efficiency.

It will be understood that the transparent housing shape can be circular, elliptical or any other shape to optimize collector efficiency.
