Drawer Control Arm

This is a small door or drawer control arm and detent, typically for use on a paper bin door in a copy machine.

Fig. 1 shows the control arm 10 which is attached to the door or drawer through opening 11. Flange 12 is designed to rest upon a frame member (not shown) to provide door support when the door is open. Adjustable latch 12 is slidably positioned on arm 10 and is designed to position and hold a paper bin in correct alignment when a paper bin is inserted and the door closed. Notches 13 and 14 interact with the detent device (Fig. 2) to hold the door in closed position. Surface 15 actuates a pivoting bracket (not shown) when the door is closed. The pivoting bracket operates a switch to signal that the door is closed.

Figs. 2 and 3 show the detent device used with control arm 10.

A molded support 17 contains slots 18 for final alignment of arm 10. A pawl 19, molded with an integral pivot point 20, is trapped in a pivot hole 21 in the support 17 when the arm is inserted into the support. A spring 22 bears upon pawl 19 to pull the pawl into a notch 13 or 14 to position the arm 10.
