Removable Collator Bins

This collator includes folding and removable bins.

The output sheets of copier 10 serially exit along sheet path 11. Exit drive rollers 12 insert the sheets into a slotted shaft 13. This shaft includes sheet drive rollers 14. Shaft 13 is controlled by means (not shown) to index from one collator bin to the next, as represented by arrow 15.

Collator bins 16 comprise folding, accordian-type compartments whose mouths are held open by tabs 17. These tabs are carried by plates 18 and 19 and form a unitary support for the collator bins. The bins include a tab 20 and a spring clip 21 which facilitate removably attaching the bins to assembly 17, 18 and 19.

Each of the bins includes a resilient flap 22 which pivots about point 23 and allows a sheet to be inserted into the bin by drive rollers 14. Once the sheet is inserted, it settles down onto wall 24, behind the now-closed flap 22.

At the end of a collation run, the bins are removed and replaced by a like empty bin assembly. The bins may be formed of a resilient paper or fabric.
