Abstract

Sheets 1 are fed from stack 2 by picker roll 3 through a friction-operated sheet-separating assembly of separator roll 5 and counter-rotating rotating restraint roll 4. Feed rolls 6 and 7 transport the single sheet 1 into the sheet path. Rolls 5 and 6 are frame-mounted, and rolls 4 and 7 on carrier 8 are pivotable around shafts 10 and 9, respectively. The rolls are gear driven. To decrease wear, restraint roll 4 can be retracted from contacting separator roll 5 by eccentric arrangement of its driving shaft 10 in carrier 8.

For adjusting interference between separator roll 5 and restraint roll 4, clamp screw 11, holding carrier 8 against frame extension 12, is loosened, and adjusting screw 13 is operated. After adjustment, clamp screw 11 is fastened. Alternatively, adjusting screw 13 can be replaced by a tension spring.
