Self Adjusting Thrust Bearing Tachometer

This is a self adjusting tachometer wherein the gap or spacing between mask 10 and disk 12 is uniform.

Referring to the drawing, the components of tachometer 14 are shown in unassembled form positioned on shaft 16. Shaft 16 is the support means for a motor housing 18. Basically, tachometer 14 comprises an automatic mask plate 28 which is attached to motor housing 18 via spring-loaded plate guide pins 22 and 24. Mask 10 is positioned on one side of automatic mask plate 28. Hardened washer 26 is tooled about the central point of the automatic mask plate
28. Hardened washer 26 is parallel to mask 10 and is recessed below the surface of automatic mask plate 28 on which mask 10 is positioned. Thrust bearing assembly 20 is positioned about shaft 16 so as to ride upon the recessed hardened washer. Hub means 30, with disc 12 and second hardened washer 32, is positioned on shaft 16 so that hardened washer 32 rides on the opposite side of thrust bearing 20. Hub 30 is prevented from sliding off shaft 16 by fastening means 34.

In final assembly thrust bearing 20 is positioned between hardened washers 26 and 32. By pressing hub 30 against automatic mask plate 28 and turning fastening means 34, a force is created which will load the springs around plate guide pins 22 and 24.
