Abstract

A copy production machine or copier has an operator control panel which selects various modes of operations and imposes operational parameters on the machine. During certain conditions it is desirable to maintain the previously actuated conditions of the control panel for aiding in error diagnosis. That is, a casual operator could inadvertently select features while attempting to recover from a copier error condition or while waiting for an unusual condition to terminate. Such reselection could hide the true source of the unusual condition or error.

Panel Control Circuits

A copy production machine or copier has an operator control panel which selects various modes of operations and imposes operational parameters on the machine. During certain conditions it is desirable to maintain the previously actuated conditions of the control panel for aiding in error diagnosis. That is, a casual operator could inadvertently select features while attempting to recover from a copier error condition or while waiting for an unusual condition to terminate. Such reselection could hide the true source of the unusual condition or error.

The operator control panel includes a keyboard, KB, of the ten key type for inserting a number of copies to be produced for each image. It also includes a plurality of pushbuttons, PB, for imposing modes and parameters on the copier machine. Such modes and parameters include collate, noncollate, light copy, dark copy, repeat, and the like. Additionally, machine condition indicators provide an indication to the operator of selected conditions in the machine. These include add paper, AP, clear paper path, CPP, clerical error, CC, please stand by, PSB, and remove copy, RC. The PSB is lit when certain conditions preparatory to copy production have not yet been satisfied but can be satisfied after the machine automatically accommodates such unusual conditions.

The pushbuttons are deactivated when any one of the illustrated conditions is being indicated to the operator. This arrangement is indicated b...
