Abstract

To reduce the turn-on time of a gas laser, its plasma tube is surrounded by one or more heating elements controllably connected to a power source With the laser off, the plasma tube is heated to the same temperature as with the laser on. The heating elements and the laser are connected to a power source via an exclusive OR circuit. When the laser is turned on, heating is turned off, and vice versa, holding the plasma tube at a constant temperature to allow instant laser turn-on.
